Back in late June, I did a photoshoot with a lovely model by the name of Cory. For this shoot, the photographer wanted a smokey eye, so I opted for burgundy and black to really make her eyes pop.
When I asked several of you on Facebook if you’d like to see a tutorial of this look in action, there was a resounding ‘YES!’
So I did manage to bring hubby along to help me film the application process. Being the perfectionist I am, I wasn’t too happy with the final footage. The lighting was bad that day, as it was the weekend when Tropical Storm Debby rolled into town. I also was further away from the camera than I would’ve like to have been – BUT it was a great learning experience for the next one!
I didn’t want to scrap the footage as I thought you might find some of it entertaining and would enjoy a more ‘behind the scenes’ look at things. At any rate, I hope you enjoy this! (Pictures and full product list used are below the video.)

Love the Look <3
Thank you, Judith!
Great video, Zabrena! I really enjoyed watching it. Would love to see more videos like this. I’ve been thinking of getting Typographic so it was great to see you use it in this video.
You will LOVE Typographic, Saira!
I’m very happy to hear you enjoyed this kind of video; I do plan on many more in the future!
i love this look and thank you for posting a video with a model
and your husband was so sweet to move your hair for you so we could see lol! i was like “phantom hand!!!” I’d get so bashful if i had been you so kudos woman!
Haha! You’re too cute!
He is one awesome catch to put up with (let alone understand) my makeup addiction!
any alternative to Copperplate? Can’t seem to find any posting for dupes of this one.
Hmmm, do you have Print or possibly Silver Ring? Either of those might work in its place
no-I have older grays like greystone, and anti-establishment,can’t see purchasing more greys since I rarely use them. Maybe I’ll try one of those older ones in place of Copperplate. But I did order samples of pigment Heritage Rouge, Night Light and Indianwood paint pot and Constructivist paint pot. Thanks Z
how do you mix a pigment with an eyeshadow as in your description for an alternative to Sweet Chestnut? I tried mixing on my hand, which didn’t really work. Do you just layer it on the eye?
Heya! Yep! I typically will layer them over one another. There have been instances where I’ve had to scrape a little off the top of an eyeshadow though because it wasn’t one to cooperate (ahem, Idol Eyes), but either method works!
Thanx Z
This is such a pretty look and goes really nicely with dark hair, looks like I’ll be pulling out the makeup to play!
